We need to talk about Mark

Firstly I will show my hand here, I have never understood the Noble love-in. If he wasn't 'one of us' he would have been gone by now.
Okay, that now aside, I'm just not sure where he fits in now? It seems we need Makelele types and Payet types, Noble is neither of these. He can't take free kicks or corners and is as nifty and mobile as the Albert Hall.
So honest question, where does he fit into all this?

You have to laugh at the people that actually think Mark Noble was given a new contract costing the club millions of pounds simply because he was born in Canning Town.
He was part of the highly successful midfield that got the club as high as 3rd last season and on form is an excellent player like he against Tottenham for example.

I was surprised he got a generous 5 year deal...
Had too many mediocre games last season...
Has very little pace and recovery when beaten by quick attackers...
His free kicks are poor...Penalties are good..
I believe he will do better without Nolan in the side....
Let's see how he performs in Bilic's lineups...as he will have stiff competition for a starting place...

Noble is a decent player but playing alongside Nolan has been to his detriment
Needs legs around him to be fully effective

He is a decent player, doesn't pull up any trees, as we bring in more quality and become the Real Madrid of London he will struggle to get a starting berth. I will warm the bench on his wages if he doesn't fancy it.

Noble has always been better with attack minded Pacey players around him, it compliments him. His form was always more consistent and better when he had Tevez, Bellamy and last season before Christmas the sakho/Valencia partnership. I think a midfield consisting of Noble/Payet/Kouyate will see another rise of his form

He was the ONLY player whilst Yossi was injured, THAT season, to be on the same wavelength as Tevez
Now we're beginning to look like signing more intelligent pacey industrious players looking to attack at every opportunity Noble will fit in like he did then as the pace has never been there.

Yeah let's players around Noble that can do everything Noble can't so he can look ok.
In fact why not do it for our proper captain Nolan.
Or we can get a player that can do the stuff Nolan and Noble can't and make us an even better TEAM.

He's a crowd pleaser, a trier, puts in a good shift, but if we are to crack the top quarter of the table (which is still a ways off regardless of Mark), he won't be in the starting XI.
It's rightly been stated that he needs legs around him to shine, the song, noble, kouyate, downing diamond for example. The question becomes though what the midfield could do with someone more mobile. For the time being, I think he'll play an important role this season and likely the following one in helping to transition to Bilic's new system. I think people are underestimating the difficulty of that transition. I certainly welcome it, but changing systems isn't an easy task particularly in the premier league, especially when everyone is used to just lumping the ball forward. If nothing else, Mark gives continuity and leadership as the longest standing member of the squad, having seen us through a host of significant changes.
